Mitch, in the early 70's when the Supreme Court was hearing a lot of pornography cases, Justice Potter Stewart brilliantly opined that "I can't define pornography but I know it when I see it". Medium Format is the same way; hard to define but you know when you see it. There is something about not only the image but the process of slowing down and composing an image before you press the button. It's magical!

Well before the digital cameras, professionals were using film cameras which means you have one shot to take and can corrupt all films just like one sd card. But they were doing amazing. Sure two sd card slot is a good bonus but i don't think it is a must. So I don't know why everyone says non-profesional for one sd card slot cameras even though a lot of other good or equal specs with two card slots ones.

SLR and DSLR cameras have been taking amazing photos for more years than you have been alive. When you look through a mirrorless camera viewfinder, you see what the processor has decided for you. This is a fantastic thing for the smartphone photographer and the people that must have the latest kit. When I take a photograph with one of my DSLR's the image I get, is from 50 years experience. That's 50 years of horrendous mistakes and learning from them. Some of my lenses have vibration reduction, it is never switched on. I learnt to use shutter and aperture, I used a tripod, a monopod, a fence post and on one occasion my daughters shoulder. If you want the latest camera (superceded in 12 months) and all of the electronic shortcuts, that's okay enjoy them. But please stop telling us we need to switch our brains off and buy mirrorless.

Hi, Mitch Lally. I am Korean and a subscriber who loves your videos. The fan pattern I saw at Haeundae Beach is the traditional "Taegeuk" pattern. 3 colored "Taegeuk," it is a pattern that represents the three elements of the universe, each meaning sky, land, and people. I think it would be nice to think of it as a pattern that means harmony. Thank you for showing me such a good video.

To my opinion, Venice is one of the most difficult places in the world for photographers. Millions of people are coming to Venice every year and taking billions of photos. Social Media is flooded with photos of Venice, and all look the same. That makes it so difficult to create a photo, that you do not have seen thousands of times before. I think that is the real challenge if you come to Venice: Create a photo that is original, unique and new.

Personally it shouldn't matter whether it's a DSLR or a mirrorless. Shoot with whatever works FOR YOU. Don't let people tell you that unless you shoot with a DSLR, you're not a professional, because that's total garbage and unfair. If you have mobility issues like me, and you can only handle a mirrorless camera, WHO CARES!!!!!!!!?????? Yeah okay, by some it could be viewed as 'cheating' with a mirrorless camera, but if the result is the same and you learn from the fundamentals from a mirrorless, why wouldn't you shoot with it? Like I said, don't let people intimidate you by saying 'unless you shoot with a DSLR, you're not a professional'.

Nice work again Mitch, please make more videos using films (and different rolls). I'm using an Olympus SP 35 as my story teller with Kodak Gold 200 for everyday shots, Illford HP5 B&W. The camera forces me to use all manual. The grainy output is an amazing re-interpretation of the subject. The Olympus goes with me to scenic spots\landscape aside my main digicam.

Distance to near subject not focal length controls near-far perspective which can be seen by using all four lenses then cropping similarly in post processing or by taking any prime lens and moving to the min focal distance then backing up. It is erroneously thought that focal length changes perspective because wide angle lenses have very short min. focal length and need to be close to full the frame but telephotos need to be further away to get a full length subject in the frame. I learned portraiture apprenticing with this guy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Zucker whose window lit portraits looked like Old Master Rembrandt and Monet painting and whose innovative use of dual speedlights made wedding ceremony and reception photos look like they were shot on a Hollywood sound stage because every shot had perfect lighting patterns and precise facial angle. He was a popular teacher and wrote a column in the Professional Photographer Magazine teaching hundreds of wedding photographers his techniques ways that were easy to understand. The first step is to look at the subject full face in centered lighting on the nose and determine it is symmetrical and narrow or wide behind the eyes (small or large skull). The faces models usually are very symmetrical with narrow skull and for that reason look good full-face and the same in either oblique or profile views - why they get select as models. Most people are not blessed with symmetrical faces and that is were shooting distance controlling near-far perspective comes into play to hide that by using an oblique pose with the larger side of the face, or eye if one is larger, furthest from the camera then putting the KEY light 45° from the nose on the thinner side hiding it in the shadows. The net result is a face which looks more symmetrical and flattering in the photo than the full face self image people have of themselves from standing in front of the bathroom mirror in flat, crossed-shadow lighting. I always start with centered buttery lighting (indoors or skylight) and full face poses which make any asymmetrical features more obvious then try the oblique facial angle / ‘short’ lighting strategy. I’ll also evaluate the profile from each side which is also a good way to hide asymmetry. Pro tip I learned from Monte for oblique and profiles is to first pose the face to the light, then find the precise angle which is most flattering, then ‘cheat’ the eyes by having the subject look sideways at the camera just enough to for the irises to appear centered with sclera (white) on each side to avoid an insincere ‘shifty-eyed’ body language appearance. After finding the most flattering / symmetrical shooting distance looking through the lens then select the focal length which provides the desired in-camera crop. Using a 24-70mm zoom lens is actually better than primes if shooting crops from full-length to head-and-shoulders or 24-105mm for tighter head shots because they can all be shot from the same most flattering distance with the zoom used to change the in camera crop without changing the near-far size of nose vs. ears. Bell’s Palsy or who has suffered a stroke affecting one side of the face is to shot a “penny” profile taking care of not to show anything past the middle of the nose and the viewer will assume the other side of the face looks the same. A trait most top models have are a face that is perfect symmetrical and narrow because most advertising and fashion shots are full face with symmetrical “butterfly” lighting with KEY and FILL both on the camera axis. When you KEY light a symmetrical face from the side it winds up looking asymetlopsided by comparison. That reaction to light and shadow on a face can be used to advantage when a subject’s face is larger on one side than the other by

Stunning build quality, amazing metering, auto focus and the highest shutter speed of any film camera, 1/12000 sec. I've got one mated to a Minolta 50 1.4. Pictures stunned me first time I got them back. I thought they were from my digital Fuji!

This is honestly a terrible comparison. You didn't take the same shots and the same focal lengths. Not exactly sure how this is helpful. The same photographer should use both lenses on the same shot and try to get the best results..that's how you do a comparison. You introduced multiple inconsistencies that have nothing to do with the actual camera lenses.
